Assessments
Introduction PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 20 May 2009 03:54

This section includes three assessments:

  • Allen Cognitive Level Screen - 5 (ACLS-5) and the Large Allen Cognitive Level Screen - 5 (LACLS-5)
  • Allen Diagnostic Module, 2nd edition (ADM-2)
  • Routine Task Inventory, Expanded (RTI-E)
These assessments are routinely used to obtain a score for interpreting a client's cognitive level and mode of functioning. It is important to stress that "best practice" dictates that scores should be obtained from at least two of these assessments before determining a client's cognitive level and mode of functioning.

Publisher: ACLS and LACLS Committee, Camarillo, CA, USA, Copyright ©2007

Description: This 5th version of the Allen Cognitive Level Screen with a newly revised and updated 66 page manual is a dynamic, activity-based screening tool first developed in 1978 for use with the Allen cognitive disabilities model. It is complrised of three visual -motor tasks (leather lacing stitches) with increasingly complex activity demands.  Completion of the three tasks requires that the person attend to, understand, and use sensory and motor cues from the material objects (leather, lace and needles), administrator's verbal and demonstrated instructions and cues, and feedback from motor actions while making the stitches.  The scores obtained are interpreted using the Allen Cognitive Scale of levels and modes of performance.  The screen is available in two forms: a standard ACLS-5 and a larger form LACLS-5 for persons with vision or hand function problems.

Author: Noomi Katz, PhD, OTR

Publisher: Manual for the RTI-E is available as a free PDF download on this website.

Description: The Routine Task Inventory was introduced in 1985 as an assessment of cognitive abilities in the context of routine daily activities. In 1989, Claudia Allen developed an expanded version of the original Routine Task Inventory (RTI-E). The RTI-E is widely used in clinical practice in Israel where it has also been used in several research studies. Noomi Katz, PhD, OTR, (Professor of Occupational Therapy at Hebrew University, Jerusalem), has recently developed a manual for the RTI-E in order to encourage others to use this tool in clinical practice, and research.
